5 Ways to Prioritise yourself (even when your kids come first)

Let’s be honest: when you're a mum, your time often isn’t your own. The snacks, the schedules, the school notes... you’re always on. And while your kids are your everything, it’s also okay to want space for you.

Here’s the secret: prioritising yourself doesn’t mean you’re taking away from them. It means you’re showing up as your best, most fuelled self. Because everyone wins when you're cared for too.

1. Give yourself permission.
You don’t need to “earn” rest or me-time. You’re allowed to take care of yourself just because. It’s not selfish, it’s essential.

2. Start small.
You don’t need an entire day off. 10 minutes with a coffee in silence, a slow stretch, or a quick walk around the block can refill your cup.

3. Create gentle boundaries.
It’s okay to say “not right now.” Whether it’s a boundary with your phone, a playdate, or an extra task, you’re allowed to protect your energy.

4. Schedule something just for you.
Even if it’s once a week, put something in the calendar that’s yours whether it’s a class, a catch-up, a quiet bath. If it’s in the diary, it’s real.

5. Ask for help.
Your wellbeing matters. You’re not taking time away from your family, you’re giving them a version of you that’s full, grounded, and more connected.
